About Thika Tandem

Inclusive tandem cycling that turns shared effort into confidence, opportunity and sporting excellence.

Who we are

A club built on trust, teamwork and possibility

Thika Tandem ParaCycling Club is an inclusive cycling community based in Thika, Kenya. We bring visually impaired athletes and sighted pilots together on tandem bicycles so they can train, compete, grow in confidence and experience the freedom of cycling.

Our mission

Open the road to opportunity

We create safe, structured and ambitious pathways for visually impaired athletes to participate in cycling, develop their talent and pursue competitive goals.

Our vision

An inclusive cycling future

We envision a Kenya where disability never limits access to sport, community, leadership or the chance to perform at the highest level.

Our approach

Two riders, one team

Every tandem partnership depends on communication, discipline and mutual trust—qualities that shape our training, our culture and our impact beyond cycling.

What we do

From first ride to race day

Our work combines athlete development, tandem pilot partnerships, regular training, competition preparation and community engagement. We help riders build fitness, technical skill, confidence and a strong sense of belonging.

We also work with volunteers, coaches, supporters and partners who believe inclusive sport can change lives and strengthen communities.

What guides us

Our values on and off the bike

Inclusion

Everyone deserves a place in sport

We remove barriers, respect individual needs and design opportunities around the person—not the disability.

Excellence

Progress with purpose

We train with discipline, learn continuously and support every athlete to reach their strongest possible level.

Teamwork

Trust moves us forward

Riders, pilots, coaches, families and supporters succeed when communication and shared responsibility come first.

Our community

Rooted in Thika, riding for Kenya

Our home is Thika in Kiambu County, where local roads, training sessions and community relationships shape the club. From this base, we aim to grow para-cycling participation, represent our community with pride and connect Kenyan athletes to wider opportunities.
